Watch Sam Burns GIVE IT LARGE with second ace on day one at US Open
PGA Tour pro Sam Burns made a stunning hole-in-one during the opening round of the 123rd US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.
Sam Burns celebrated 'like a gladiator' after he made a stunning hole-in-one during the opening round of the 123rd US Open.
The par-3 15th at Los Angeles Country Club was only playing at 124 yards and the pin was relatively easy to get at (for the tour pros).
But as Nick Dougherty on the Sky Sports broadcast pointed out, you've still gotta do it.
We had already seen an ace in the morning wave after Matthiew Pavon drained one early doors. The Frenchman stood stunned, arms aloft at what he had just done.
Burns' celebration was a little bit more enthusiastic. After a 'poised and balanced' swing, Burns sent his wedge high up into the stratosphere.
His golf ball landed only a few feet from the hole and zipped back into the centre of the cup. Cue scenes.
Burns then lobbed his iron into the air, high-fiving his caddie before giving it large to the crowd. His playing partner Dustin Johnson also managed a smile.
With the ace, Burns moved from level par to 2-under for the championship which at the time was six back of early leaders Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler.
