PGA Tour star Billy Horschel drilled a lady in the shin with his tee shot on the 10th hole and then apologised by signing her leg with a Sharpie pen.

Horschel, 38, sprayed his tee shot down the right flank on the par-4 10th and his ball ricocheted into a lady's leg and back into the fairway.

A painful moment for the spectator and a fortunate bounce for Horschel to say the least.

The lady was left with a big bruise.

Horschel felt awful for what happened and he proceeded to take out a Sharpie pen and sign the lady's leg.

He also gave the lady a hug before heading back over to play his second shot.

"She handled it like a legend," Horschel said after the round.

"I felt awful, but she was laughing about it.

"Signing her leg? Definitely a first."

PGA Tour fans piled praise on Horschel for the way he reacted to unfortunate moment for the spectator.

The eight-time PGA Tour winner went on to make a par on the 10th en route to an opening level-par 71.

Horschel, who won the FedEx Cup in 2014, outweighed three birdies with three bogeys on Thursday.

It leaves Horschel 10 shots off the pace in T51 heading into the second round of the $20m RBC Heritage, the fifth of eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour this season.

Horschel, who won his second BMW PGA title on the DP World Tour last season, has endured a rocky start to 2025 with just two top-10 finishes in 11 starts on the PGA Tour this season.

That has seen him slip outside the world's top 20 to a current 23rd in the OWGR.

Justin Thomas equalled the course record at Harbour Town Golf Links in the first round with a stunning 10-under 61.

JT made a course architect claim after the round.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is also off to a hot start in his title defence courtesy of an opening 64 alongside his 2024 U.S. Presidents Cup partner Russell Henley
