Golf fans are loving the fact serial slow coach Patrick Cantlay will face a 40-second shot clock over each of shots during his Tuesday night TGL debut.

Golf fans have all made the same Patrick Cantlay joke ahead of the PGA Tour star making his TGL debut on 21 January.

Cantlay is a member of Atlanta Drive GC, which also comprises Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover.

Atlanta Drive GC is making its first appearance on TGL in Week 3.

TGL - Tomorrow Golf League - is a brand new indoor golf league at the SoFi Center that is the brainchild of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

With all regular season matches featuring three players on each team, Glover has been benched for Atlanta Drive GC's first match.

Atlanta Drive GC faces New York GC on Tuesday 21 January.

New York GC comprises Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young and Xander Schauffele.

Two-time major champion Schauffele is sitting out for New York.

Schauffele also withdrew from this week's Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour due to "medical advice".

The World No.2 is one of a number of star names to WD from this week's coveted tournament at Torrey Pines.

It marks the first time in the last nine years that Schauffele has missed his home San Diego event.

Schauffele is rather worringly not able to make a full golf swing at the minute, according to Golf Channel

But back to the top of the story and golf fans have all been cracking the same joke about Cantlay ahead of him meeting the TGL's 40-second shot clock.

For those none the wiser, Cantlay is not one of the fastest players in the professional game to put it politely.

But players on TGL do not have time to faff about since there is a 40-second shot clock in operation for every shot.

Cantlay will therefore have to get on with his business a lot quicker than usual during a regular PGA Tour event.

Here's a look at a number of comments doing the rounds on X / Twitter ahead of Cantlay's TGL debut:
