PGA Tour star Xander Schauffele is currently not able to make a full golf swing after sustaining a soft tissue injury in his rib, according to a report.

Schauffele kicked off his 2025 season in Hawaii with a T30 finish at The Sentry

He made his TGL debut on 7 January but has since pulled out of The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

Schauffele's decision to withdraw from this week's event was particularly surprising considering his ties to California.

Golf Channel's Todd Lewis has now confirmed Schauffele's injury has been troubling the reigning Open champion for a while.

Schauffele may also be forced to miss the signature AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at Pebble Beach later this month.

Lewis posted on X:

"World #2 @XSchauffele has been bothered with a right rib injury since late last year

"It is not skeletal but instead soft tissue. Played through issue at @TheSentry but resting now and not making any full swings.

"Not playing hometown event this week. Uncertain about @attproam."

Schauffele's 2024 was a landmark year, highlighted by two major championship victories.

He finally broke through in a major at the PGA Championship at Valhalla by making a closing birdie at the 72nd hole to deny Bryson DeChambeau

Schauffele added to his haul with an assured performance at Royal Troon in July to win The Open.

Aside from runaway World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, he was among the most consistent performers in elite men's golf.

Scheffler injury update

Like Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler is also out of action.

He cut his hand during Christmas and needed surgery to remove shards of glass from his right palm.

Scheffler was spotted in the gym last week ramping up his preparations.

He told reporters on 20 January that he may not be able to return at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am later in the month.

Scheffler said he won't rush his comeback just for the sake of it.

"I'm definitely anxious to get back, excited to get back," he said.

"But I'm also not going to rush back just to rush back."
