Golf fans react to unexpected Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth news
Report: Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TMRW Sports partner Mike McCarley confirms TGL expansion is on the cards for 2026 - and it could be very good news for Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth fans.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TMRW Sports co-founder Mike McCarley has told AP's Doug Ferguson a new Dallas team franchise with a total investment of $77m could join TGL in 2026 - and it's led plenty of PGA Tour fans to consider it opens the door for Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth.
Both Dallas-based residents Scheffler, 28, and Spieth, 31, chose not to be part of Woods and McIlroy's debut TGL season in 2025.
Could Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth join TGL in 2026?
Scheffler and Spieth reportedly did not think they could fit TGL, which played all of its matches at Florida's SoFi Center, into their packed PGA Tour schedules.
But plans are in place ahead of TGL's second season in 2026 for not only another team franchise, likely to be Dallas, but also for additional stadium sites across the United States.
That could prove music to the ears of both Scheffler and Spieth, who both have young families.
TGL average viewers 2025
Woods, McIlroy and McCarley were said to be extremely proud of TGL's debut season, which started 12 months later than anticipated after the SoFi Center's roof collapsed in November 2023.
Even if there was a seemingly mixed reaction from ardent PGA Tour fans on social media.
ESPN confirmed its average TGL night rating across all platforms reached 500,000 viewers.
But TMRW Sports reportedly push that number to 850,000 viewers once using Nielsen Big Data+ Panel, which includes smart TVs in the overall figure.
TGL average viewer age was a lot younger than PGA Tour
The big positive for TGL was that its average viewer was 12 years younger (median age 52) than during a PGA Tour event.
In fact, average TGL viewers only trail NBA when it comes to a younger age for watching live sport in the United States.
That has been one of Woods, McIlroy and McCarley's main goals with TGL, to try and attract new and younger people into our great sport.

Atlanta Drive GC, consisting of Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover, won the first season of TGL.
Woods and McIlroy's teams - Jupiter Links GC and Boston Common Golf - were the only two teams to miss out on the end of season playoffs.
That was something of a blow for everyone involved, especially given the appeal PGA Tour superstars Woods and McIlroy have in the game.
A total of six teams competed in 2025, with a total of 24 PGA Tour players in action throughout the three-month schedule from January to March.
Teams rotated players on a weekly basis with three players representing their side each game week.
New TGL team could be Dallas
According to Associated Press reporter Doug Ferguson, who spoke to McCarley this week, plans are firmly in place for TGL to add at least one more team for 2026.
The main team franchise in question is understood to be Dallas.
The latest rumour has led a number of excited PGA Tour fans to believe both Dallas residents Scheffler and Spieth could now be set to join TGL next season.
Other Dallas-based players on the PGA Tour who also did not take part in TGL's debut campaign include Will Zalatoris and Si Woo Kim.
Barstool Sports reporter Dan Rapaport believes its an oven-ready TGL team if Dallas is about to get involved.
"A Dallas TGL team of Scottie, Spieth, Zalatoris, Si Woo would add some serious juice to the league," tweeted Rapaport.
A price tag of $77m has apparently been slapped on their back, too.
Some ardent Scheffler fans aren't so sure it's a good idea for the runaway World No.1 to join TGL, though.

"Expansion is a strong possibility," writes Ferguson following his latest conversation with McCarley.
"One group is planning to bid for a franchise in Dallas and has put the total investment at $77 million.
McCarley told Ferguson: "There’s been a ton of interest over the course of a season."
Ferguson added: "McCarley said at least one potential expansion group has been to every match, most of them owners of franchises in sports from cricket to soccer."
Plans are also in the works, per McCarley, for additional TGL stadium sites on the West Coast in order to better manage player schedules in between PGA Tour events.
There has been no official comment from Scheffler and Spieth as to whether they will indeed consider signing up to TGL in 2026.
No doubt we'll find out soon.
