Key Features:

  • Zero Torque Technology: Designed to keep the face square to the arc throughout the stroke, reducing the need for hand manipulation and promoting a more natural, consistent roll.
  • 100% Lie-Angle Balanced (LAB): The putter automatically squares itself to your path, helping you start the ball on line more consistently, especially useful on short-range putts.
  • Solid Aluminium Body Construction: Milled from a single block of aluminium for a soft, muted feel at impact—ideal for players who value smooth feedback off the face.
  • Press Grip with Forward Shaft Lean: Around 2° of built-in shaft lean, neutralised by a unique grip, encourages forward press and helps promote topspin from the moment of contact.

If you are in the market for one of the best zero torque putters money can buy right now, then look no further than the new L.A.B Golf OZ 1 Putter, which has been co-designed by a former Masters champion and 14-time PGA Tour winner.

The brand new OZ 1 from L.A.B. Golf brings zero torque tech into a sleeker package.

But does it actually make you a better putter?

When you think of L.A.B. Golf, you usually picture bold, unorthodox designs—but the new OZ 1 stands apart.

It’s arguably the brand’s most traditional-looking putter yet.

Co-developed by 2013 Masters champion and 14-time PGA Tour winner Adam Scott, the new OZ 1 putter is a cleaner, more user-friendly evolution of LAB’s zero torque philosophy.

At first glance, it still holds that unmistakable LAB DNA—tech-driven, solidly built, and engineered to help you roll it better.

But the real question is: does it actually improve your putting and is it one of the best golf putters on the market in 2025?

I took it out for a full run-through, both on the green and in front of the Quintic analysis system, to find out.

Tech Breakdown

The key talking point here is zero torque. In simple terms, that means the face of the putter remains square to your stroke arc without you needing to manipulate it. Less hand action, more consistency.

It’s also 100% lie-angle balanced—which, if you didn’t know, is what “LAB” stands for. This design trait helps eliminate face twisting through impact, making it easier to start the ball online.

The model I tested was made from a solid aluminium body, giving it a soft, muted feel at impact. If you’re someone who prefers a firmer strike, there is an insert option available to customise the response.

One subtle detail that stands out is LAB’s press grip, which works in tandem with around 2° of shaft lean. It sets your hands slightly forward at address, encouraging a bit of forward press to promote topspin and true roll.

Looks and Sound

The first thing that should be noted here is that I designed this putter myself after being afforded the opportunity by the guys at L.A.B Golf.

This is one of the coolest things about this putter is that you can customise how it looks yourself.

You are provided a host of different alignment opportunities by L.A.B Golf and that's why they are one of the best putter brands in the business right now.

As for the looks of the OZ 1, it might just be LAB’s most handsome putter yet.

I tested the all-black model, and it’s as stealthy and clean as they come—shaft, head, and grip are completely colour matched.

Visually, it’s modern and minimalist, and the alignment lines (optional, but highly recommended) are some of the best I’ve seen. They’re tastefully integrated and hugely helpful in setting your eyes correctly over the ball.

Off the face, there’s a high-pitched click, but the feedback is rich and full. Whether it was a centre strike or slightly off, it all felt consistently solid.

Feel and Performance: Short Range

On short putts, the OZ 1 is genuinely excellent. Using the Quintic putting system, I rolled a series of 10-footers and the data was eye-opening.

Performance highlights:

  • Launch angle: Averaged at 2.47°—a tad high, ideally it should be slightly lower
  • Topspin: Strong, consistent, immediate roll
  • Face angle: Remained square to path throughout the stroke
  • Stroke arc: Clean and repeatable

Compared to my gamer putter (a TaylorMade Spider X), which is toe-hang balanced, the difference in stability was night and day. With the Spider X, there’s more twist and correction required through the stroke. The LAB putter practically guides itself.

Long Range and Fringe Performance

Here's where the OZ 1 isn’t quite as bulletproof. On longer putts—30 feet and beyond—I found it harder to get comfortable. The rigid, torque-free face that works so well from short range didn’t allow for the same creativity or feel on lag putts.

When I needed to open up the stance or visualise a longer arc, the putter almost fought back. It’s like it wanted to keep me square whether I liked it or not.

From just off the green, it struggled a bit more. I tested some fringe-to-green transitions and it became obvious that judging pace through the longer grass was tough. The combination of the soft feel and neutral face angle made it difficult to get the ball rolling cleanly out of thicker lies.

Price and Value

Let’s talk numbers. The stock model comes in at £449 / $499, and if you’re after a custom build, you’re looking at £549 / $599. That’s serious coin.

Is it worth it? That depends. If you’re someone who doesn’t practice putting and wants a putter that’ll do some of the work for you—then yes, this gives you tools that usually only come from repetition and drills.

That said, if you’re prepared to put the time in, you might be able to replicate a lot of the benefits of this putter with your current flat stick and a few tee gate or mirror drills.

Should you purchase the L.A.B Golf OZ 1 Putter?

There’s no denying LAB Golf are doing something unique—and with the OZ 1, they’ve made it more accessible than ever.

It looks slick, feels premium, and genuinely improves short-range consistency.

But if your game lives or dies by long-range feel or crafty shots off the fringe, you might find it a bit too prescriptive.
