CBS commentator fires shot at LIV Golf during PGA Tour coverage
Former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost fired a shot a LIV Golf during the third round coverage of the WM Phoenix Open on CBS.
Former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost decided to take a subtle dig at LIV Golf during the third round coverage at the WM Phoenix Open.
Knost, a former PGA Tour member who now works as an on-course commentator for the CBS broadcast team, made his feelings clear as he took in the scene at TPC Scottsdale's rowdy par-3 16th.
Thousands of fans went nuts as Emiliano Grillo made a slam-dunk ace on Friday and they were hoping for more fireworks in round three.
"There are 24,000 people circled around the coliseum," Knost said during Saturday's coverage. "That's 12,000 times two if I'm not mistaken."
The comment was a clear reference to the fact the first round of LIV Golf's curtain-raiser in Riyadh drew in an average of just 12,000 viewers in FOX Sports' first-ever broadcast of the breakaway circuit.
LIV even played their first event of the 2025 campaign under lights to try and attract a U.S. audience.
Each round in Saudi Arabia got underway at 6.15pm local time.
Adrian Meronk landed his first ever LIV title and in the immediate aftermath of his victory made it clear he is eyeing up a spot in the U.S. Open.
Earlier in the week the USGA became the first major to announce a direct pathway for players from the PIF-backed circuit to gain entry.

His comment drew a mixed reaction. One X user described it as 'just beautiful'.
This person wrote: "Love the LIV slander."
Another added: "Colt is an idiot for going after LIV. Who cares. You know who doesn't? Golf fans."
Knost has made his feelings about LIV perfectly clear on more than one occasion.
In May 2023, he was involved in a furious argument on X with Phil Mickelson over whether the breakaway tour deserved to have world ranking points.
Mickelson argued there was collusion going on behind closed doors to try and protect the PGA Tour's commercial interests.
Knost disagreed and invited him on his podcast to discuss the matter.
Lefty politely declined more than once.
