Bubba Watson says he would drop out and caddie for Rory McIlroy if he joins LIV Golf
Report: Bubba Watson admits he will happily move aside on RangeGoats GC in 2025 should Rory Mcilroy decide to come and join his team.
LIV Golf's Bubba Watson has revealed with tongue-in-cheek comments to bunkered that he would happily caddie for Rory McIlroy should the World No.3 decide to come and join his RangeGoats GC in 2025.
Of course there is absolutely no chance PGA Tour superstar McIlroy, 35, will be joining Watson's team on LIV Golf in 2025.
But two-time Masters champion Watson, who is the owner and team captain of RangeGoats GC, is letting himself dream.
Watson, 46, was relegated from the LIV Golf League at the end of the 2024 season after finding himself in the dreaded Drop Zone.
It's understood Watson will be invited back to compete as a player on RangeGoats GC should he wish next season.
That's the goal anyway but talks are ongoing between Watson and LIV Golf officials during the off-season.
"My dream scenario is play next year," Watson told Scottish publication bunkered at this week's PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour.
"I’m the owner, if I really want to I can put myself in there.
"We’ve got to just see what’s out there, what’s available."
Watson lost one of his players on RangeGoats GC (Thomas Pieters) to Dustin Johnson's 4Aces GC earlier this week.
Pieters' switch marked the first player transfer ahead of the 2025 LIV Golf League season, which gets underway in February in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Watson admits several LIV Golf teams - one of which is the RangeGoats - are currently on the lookout for one particular player ahead of the new season.
"There’s a couple teams battling for the same person," continued Watson.
"We’re looking everywhere, the best amateurs. I’m not looking just for an American.
"Someone who can help us going forward. I would love to see a bit more youth on my team.
"From next week we’ve got to make moves fast."

Watson then joked about McIlroy, confirming he would happily remove himself as a LIV Golf player and caddie for him should the Northern Irishman decide he wants to join RangeGoats GC.
"Rory might call me and say ‘hey man, can I have a spot?’ I don’t know," quipped Watson.
"That’s what I’m saying. We’ve got to wait and see."
Watson added: "I would give it to him fast. I would sit at home and watch him play – I take that back, I would caddie for him, make sure he had enough water and all that stuff!"
McIlroy has been a vocal critic of all things LIV Golf since the breakaway league was formed in the summer of 2022.
But the Northern Irishman has slowly changed his tune on the Saudi-bankrolled circuit and those players that decided to join since he wants the professional game to unite once again in the future.
McIlroy will join Scottie Scheffler for The Crypto.com Showdown against LIV Golf duo Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka on 17 December at Shadow Creek GC in Vegas.
