Joaquin Niemann caddie: Who carries the sticks for the LIV Golf star? Here is everything you need to know about experienced looper Gary Matthews.
Joaquin Niemann has now established himself as a top talent in men's professional golf.
Niemann is one of LIV Golf's most consistent players and has tasted victory four times in the PIF-backed league.
He's also won twice on the PGA Tour but is yet to breakthrough and win a major championship.
Helping the golfer on the fairways is his caddie Gary Matthews.
Matthews has been carrying the sticks for Niemann since the 2020 U.S. Open.
He is a vastly experienced caddie and has been looping for more than two decades.
Matthews has worked for the likes of Anthony Kim, former World No.1 Luke Donald, former Masters champ Charl Schwartzel and LPGA Tour stars Lydia Ko and Minjee Lee.

Who is Joaquin Niemann's caddie?
Gary Matthews has been Niemann's caddie since 2020.
When Niemann turned pro he had Dean Elliot on the bag.
But after the 2020 U.S. Open, the pair parted ways, and Niemann began working with Matthews.
When the Chilean made the switch to LIV Golf, he continued his partnership with the experienced looper.
Matthews himself is an accomplished golfer himself, playing for the University of Arizona in college.
It is understood that he plays off a handicap of one.
Career and experience
Matthews has caddied for many successful golfers, including Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald, Lydia Ko, Minjee Lee, Charl Schwartel, and Anthony Kim.
Together with Niemann, they have won eight professional titles, four on the LIV Golf Tour, one on the PGA Tour, one on the DP World Tour, and one on the Chilean Tour.
So far in 2025, Niemann has won twice on the Saudi-backed tour, LIV Golf Adelaide and LIV Golf Singapore.
Salary and earnings
Caddies are usually paid by players by the 10-7-5 rule, which awards caddies 10 per cent of their earnings when they win a tournament, seven per cent for a top-10, and five per cent for making the cut.
It's not in the public domain how much Niemann pays Matthews but it wouldn't be surprising if their agreement is similar.
Early career
Matthews has been caddying since 2003.
He has looped for:
Tim Clark
Camilo Villegas
Sergio Garcia
Trevor Immelman
Anthony Kim
Brendon De Jonge
Lydia Ko
Minjee Lee
Luke Donald
Charl Schwartzel
He told Caddie Network in 2019 that his greatest golf memory was caddying in the Presidents Cup in 2003.
It is a special memory for Matthews because it was played in his home nation, South Africa, and he was able to meet Nelson Mandela.
Personal life and social media
Matthews is an Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys fan and his hobbies outside of golf are cooking, running and sports gambling.
He can be found on X under @garygm23. He usually posts photos and videos of his travels around the world while caddying for Niemann.
