PGA Tour star Tony Finau has shut down this week's rumours linking him with a move to the LIV Golf League in 2025 and revealed exactly why he's been forced to withdraw from Tiger Woods' Hero World Challenge in The Bahamas.

Finau, 35, pulled out of Woods' annual 20-man PGA Tour event earlier this week and it led to a cry of social media rumours linking him with a move to the Saudi-bankrolled LIV Golf League.

Multiple social media accounts linked Finau with a move to RangeGoats GC especially after Thomas Pieters was snapped up by Dustin Johnson onto his 4Aces GC earlier this week.

But six-time PGA Tour winner Finau has now shut down all the LIV Golf rumours following an interview with Golfweek

Finau claims he underwent surgery on 15 October to repair a torn meniscus and remove cartilage in his left knee.

Despite putting his name forward to compete in Woods' end-of-season Hero World Challenge, an event he has played in the last four editions, Finau decided he is not yet ready to return to PGA Tour competition.

Finau has, however, told Golfweek he will be back in PGA Tour action in the New Year at the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

"From what my doctor told me it was pretty standard clean up," Finau told Golfweek via a phone call on Wednesday.

"He said it would be helpful and so I did it.”

Finau then added that the rumours of a transfer from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf were "not true" and "from random people" who "were not credible".

"I am more than happy where I’m at on the PGA Tour and looking forward to 2025," Finau told Golfweek.

"When I tee it up in Maui, it will all go away, so, I don’t worry about it one bit."

Finau confirmed he phoned Woods last week to confirm his WD from the Hero World Challenge and that the 15-time major champion gave him his blessing knowing how tough it can be to recover from surgery.

"I called Tiger and made sure he knew," continued Finau.

"He said, ‘I would’ve told you to do the same thing.’"

Finau also admits he has battled with knee injury over the past couple of seasons on the PGA Tour.

It has contributed to him not adding to his haul of six PGA Tour titles since the Mexico Open in April 2023.

"The last couple of seasons have been kind of rough with my knees," said Finau.

"I am optimistic about this coming season about being more fully healthy than ever."

Finau is now going to continue his recovery this week and attempt to try and compete in next week's Grant Thornton Invitational alongside runaway ladies World No.1 Nelly Korda.

He admits he is 50/50 right now.

"That’s my biggest issue right now," said Finau.

"I will go over and practice the next couple of days and see how I feel and make a decision."
