Ryder Cup shocks, a snapped driver and a wild DQ tale | The Social Scramble #3
Want to catch up with all the latest golf news? Why not indulge in another instalment of The Social Scramble, brought to you by GolfMagic.
Hello golf junkies and welcome back to The Social Scramble where our Ben Smith recaps what's happened over the past seven days.
It's been another busy week in the world of professional golf and the biggest news is that we now know which players will be heading to Italy for the 44th Ryder Cup.
Elsewhere, we also had some crazy tales involving cheating, disqualifications and an all-time rant from a top PGA Tour pro.
Let's dive in shall we?
"Just a total joke"
Kevin Kisner hopped on the ForePlay podcast where he revealed he has split with his long-time caddie Duey. Kis - who has sat on the players advisory council - also let rip on the PGA Tour-PIF deal. The American golfer described the last three years as a 'total waste of time' having made the claim he implored PGA Tour boss Jay Monahan to take a meeting with PIF reps.
"I wanted to share a recent health development with you"
Our very best wishes are extended to Gary Woodland who has confirmed he will be having brain surgery to remove a lesion.
"I'm in good spirits with my family and team by my side and am so thankful for the love and support of everyone," Woodland wrote on X.

"We took it to an extreme"
Jon Rahm claimed he got blind drunk four days before the 87th Masters and shot a round of 60.
He was inspired by some advice from golf great Jack Nicklaus. Well, Rahm took that advice on board. Sort of.
Just when you think you've seen it all
This was a crazy tale. Tour pro Gabby Lemieux was DQ'd from an LPGA Q-School event whilst at the same time called out a fellow player for cheating. The 27-year-old claims she had witnesses. She was then kicked out of the tournament herself for signing for the wrong score. D'oh!
"I can't believe what I've just seen"
LET pro Anne van Dam got herself into a playoff at the Irish Open. On the way back to the tee, her driver snapped on a gallery rope.
Man down!
This caught our attention during the Omega European Masters. A cameraman took an almighty tumble as Ludvig Aberg was being interviewed live on Sky Sports. This was a moment of pure comedy.

Luke Donald shocks the golf world
European Ryder Cup skipper Luke Donald finalised his team with six captain's picks. Interestingly, Donald opted to exclude Adrian Meronk despite the Polish golfer being in fine fettle in 2023. Meronk even has a win at the very same venue the Ryder Cup will be played at, prompting our Andy Roberts to go on another rant. For his part, Meronk took the snub with grace.
Rules blunder!
European tour pro Alexander Bjork had a moment of madness. The Swede thought the the third round in Switzerland was being played with preferred lies. It wasn't, but he still got up and down to save par from 170 yards.
A wild and crazy story
Tony Finau is being sued for more than half of his PGA Tour earnings by two former associates.
Finau has not responded to the civil lawsuits.
That's it for this weeks folks.
See you again the same time next week.
