Golfers are spoiled for choice when it comes to laser rangefinders in 2025, but every so often, something arrives that genuinely changes how you approach a round. The new FlightScope i4 is one of those products.
After testing it thoroughly over 18 holes, we can honestly say this is one of the best golf rangefinders we've ever used.
Let's dive in...

Compact, Durable and Stylish
Right out of the box, the i4 looks the part. It’s sleek and compact, weighing just 180 grams, making it one of the lightest models on the market.
That may not seem significant at first, but you quickly notice the benefit when it’s clipped to your bag or pocket for four hours—it’s never intrusive or bulky.
It’s also waterproof, so if the heavens open mid-round (as they so often do in the UK), you don’t need to panic.
The included pouch is impressively sturdy, clipping securely to your bag with a small key ring attachment.
The built-in magnet is another thoughtful touch, allowing you to attach the i4 directly to your trolley or buggy for quick access between shots.

Blisteringly Fast and Razor Sharp
What truly sets this device apart is its speed.
The i4 locks onto targets in just 0.05 seconds, which is frankly lightning fast.
During testing, it consistently picked out pins, bunkers and tree lines with zero fuss.

Whether you’re dialling in a wedge from 115 yards or checking carry distance to a fairway bunker at 250, the 6x optical magnification provides a crystal-clear view with rock-solid accuracy.
It also ranges up to 1,000 yards, which covers any practical golf scenario and then some. There’s no delay, no frustrating misreads—just point, click, and get your number instantly.

Integrated App and Smart Data
Speed and accuracy are important, but what elevates the FlightScope i4 into a league of its own is its smart technology.
Once you pair the rangefinder with the FlightScope app via Bluetooth, the device uses your phone’s GPS to pull in real-time environmental data.
That includes wind speed, wind direction, altitude, air temperature and humidity.
This data is then factored into the i4’s Environmental Optimizer, which works alongside its slope function to calculate your effective playing distance. In other words, it doesn’t just tell you how far the pin is—it tells you how far it will actually play based on the current conditions.
In real-world use, this was a huge help. On a par 3 playing 154 yards into a strong breeze, the i4 suggested clubbing up—something I might’ve hesitated to do without that confirmation. It gave me full confidence standing over the ball.
It’s worth noting that both slope and environmental features must be turned off during competition rounds to comply with the Rules of Golf. Fortunately, toggling these features on and off is easy within the app.

Personalised Club Recommendations
This is where things get especially clever. The i4 can offer club recommendations based on your personal performance data.
If you already own a FlightScope launch monitor, you can conduct a gapping session, recording your average carry distances for each club. That data syncs with the i4 and is then used to suggest clubs directly through the viewfinder for every shot you face.
Even if you don’t have a launch monitor, you can still use the app’s Smart Gapping AI tool. Simply input your known carry distances manually, and the i4 will tailor its club suggestions accordingly. It’s a feature that removes second-guessing and helps you commit to your shot.
For me, this feature alone is a standout. On several holes, I found myself reassured knowing the i4 had considered all the environmental variables and my performance stats before recommending the club in my hand. It genuinely feels like having a personal caddie in your pocket.

Battery Life and Charging
The i4 is powered by an internal battery that charges via USB-C, and it holds enough charge for multiple rounds.
During my testing, I didn’t have to worry about topping it up, and I wouldn’t hesitate to take it away for a full weekend of golf without packing the cable.

Price and Value
At £479 RRP, the i4 sits in the premium bracket, but it’s not the most expensive rangefinder on the market.
Considering what it offers—elite-level speed, integrated weather data, app connectivity, and personalised club recommendations—it delivers outstanding value for serious golfers who want smarter decisions on the course.
Should you purchase the FlightScope i4 Rangefinder?
The FlightScope i4 Laser Rangefinder is one of the most complete, well-thought-out golf gadgets I’ve tested in recent years.
It blends raw speed and precision with genuinely helpful, performance-enhancing features that make it feel like far more than just a rangefinder.
It’s intuitive, reliable, and packed with clever tech that makes your game better—whether you’re a seasoned competitor or a weekend warrior.
If you want more than just a number—and you’re ready to start making better-informed decisions on the course—the FlightScope i4 is a superb investment.
Highly recommended.
