Report: PGA Tour members allowed to enter LIV Golf's qualifying school
PGA Tour members will be allowed to compete at LIV Golf's forthcoming promotions event in what could be a sign talks with the Saudi PIF are progressing.
PGA Tour members won't be prevented from entering LIV Golf's qualifying school next month, according to a report.
Per SI, the North American circuit have come to the view LIV's promotions event is not an 'unauthorised tournament'.
The European-based DP World Tour are also said to be mulling over whether to allow their members to tee it up at Abu Dhabi Golf Club over 8-10 December.
GolfMagic has already written a full explainer of the three-day promotions event.
Essentially, three players will earn the right to play a full LIV Golf schedule in 2024. A fourth and final spot will go to the order of merit winner on the Asian Tour's International Series.
The rival league are yet to announce what their 2024 schedule will look like. A tentative report suggests it will look largely the same.
Although curiously, there have been some suggestions LIV will distance themselves from Donald Trump's courses.
A PGA Tour spokesperson told SI: "Based on the information publicly available regarding the LIV Golf promotion event; it is determined to be a qualifying event only and not a part of an unauthorized series.
"Therefore, the LIV Golf promotion event is not categorized as an 'unauthorized tournament.' This classification is subject to change should the details of the event change."
There are less than two month's left to ratify the framework agreement that was announced on 6 June between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV's Saudi financiers.
Davis Love III recently suggested Saudi PIF representatives were being tough on the negotiations, describing the current situation as 'bizarre'.
There have also been some reports the PGA Tour are exploring alternative sources of investment.
Endevour have had an offer turned down, according to their chief executive. Fenway Sports Group are also said to be interested.
The news that the PGA Tour are allowing their members to compete in the promotions event could signal talks are progressing well.
