Charley Hull to LPGA Tour reporter: "I don't think that's about me, surely!"

Charley Hull has distanced herself from chatter she could follow a number of LPGA Tour stars in retiring from golf in the near future.

LPGA Tour star Charley Hull says she is planning to play golf until she is on her deathbed.

Hull is back in action this week at the HSBC Women's Championship in Singapore.

All the chatter this year has been on how the LPGA will deal without the star power they have lost in recent months.

As many as 10 notable LPGA Tour players said goodbye in 2024.

Lexi Thompson was the highest-profile name to announce her retirement, joining Brittany Lincicome, Ally Ewing, Marina Alex, Angela Stanford, Se Yeon Ru, Mariajo Uribe, I.K. Kim, Amy Olson and Gerina Mendoza.

Elsewhere, reigning Olympic champion and three-time Open winner Lydia Ko appears intent on retiring when she turns 30.

So therefore it will come as a relief to LPGA fans that Nelly Korda's rival is going nowhere.

One scribe asked Hull in her pre-tournament news conference on Tuesday: "I read an article a few months ago that you were retiring, what was that all about?"

Hull replied: "I don't think that's about me surely. Lexi is retiring but not me. Definitely not me. I'll play golf until I'm on my deathbed."

"I generally love golf more than anyone on this tour"

Hull is now playing in her 11th season as a professional.

She has won multiple Ladies European Tour titles and twice on the LPGA Tour.

Frustratingly, she is yet to get her hands on a major championship title.

Is that a goal for this season? Apparently, fitness is top of the agenda this year.

Hull said: "So people always ask me for my goals, and a few weeks ago I got asked [by a reporter], what's your main goal for this year?

"And I was like, I want to run a 5K in 20 minutes."

"He was like, 'So, no golf, is not your goal?'

"I was like, 'No, golf is my goal because every single week I'm playing an event, I wouldn't be in the event if I didn't think I could win it.

"My goal every week is golf, do you know what I mean?

"And I don't want to like set myself goals and then if I don't reach them, you're like, ohhh.

"But always every week I play, I want to be -- like, I want to try and win."

She added: "And last year, I put myself in some really good positions, and more and more, for me to try and win -- if I don't win an event, to push myself.

"Yeah, I love golf. I generally love golf more than anyone really loves golf on this tour.

"Yeah, my goals are just take it one step at a time and just stuff like that, really."
