LIV Golf commentator with Bryson DeChambeau claim: "Try telling that to him"

LIV Golf's David Feherty says it's still a misconception that players like Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith are playing 'exhibition golf' on the breakaway tour.

LIV Golf's lead analyst David Feherty claims there is still a misconception about the breakaway tour.

That misconception? That those on the Saudi-backed circuit are just playing exhibition golf and simply do not care.

LIV concluded their third campaign over the weekend, with Cameron Smith's Ripper taking down the Team Championship in Dallas.

Over the past two years LIV players have been hit with heavy criticism that the rival league is simply all about the money.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Feherty said this accusation couldn't be further from the truth.

"We hear from time to time that it's exhibition golf," he told the publication

"Try telling that to those guys out there. You hear Bryson talk about the team aspect. They really care about this s---.

"Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm (went head-to-head in a playoff). It's far more than an exhibition. It's the same quality of field every week.

"We're getting great players out there in contention. We have the occasional outlier, too, who will come in and win."

Feherty joined LIV in August 2022 after more than a decade calling golf telecasts for NBC and Golf Channel.

He told SI he was originally supposed to start his role as LIV's lead analyst last season but it was brought forward after the news was leaked.

Feherty said Greg Norman tapped him up for the role during the 150th Open at St Andrews, which the aforementioned Smith won.

He has two years left on his current deal and he wants to continue beyond that, he said.

"I don't know what the hell else I would do," he said.

"I'm in halfway decent shape. Cognitively I'm still all right. I take my Prevagen (a memory medication).

"Although I keep forgetting to take it. Is that a bad sign? How can you forget to take a memory supplement.

"Jesus Christ. No, I would definitely like to do this. I could see doing this into my 70s.

"I just turned 66. I've been 51 years in the game, since starting as a caddie and turning pro at age 17."

LIV Golf pro denies report

LIV are now likely to go on a huge recruitment drive over the next few months.

Five players, including two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, were relegated.

Watson, though, is likely to retain his place on the RangeGoats given his commercial appeal.

But there could be some high-profile PGA Tour players jumping ship once again.

Phil Mickelson claimed last week there continues to be heavy interest from PGA players.

But he stopped short of revealing which golfers are approaching him.

It was also recently claimed that Sergio Garcia's teammate, Eugenio Chacarra, was unhappy and wanted to quit LIV.

But he has moved quickly to deny the claim by No Laying Up before the Open de Espana
