"OH NO! What have you done?" Tour pro has DISASTER at Royal Liverpool's new hole
Australian tour pro Lucas Herbert was the first victim of the 17th hole at the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
When Lucas Herbert stepped up to the 17th tee box on the first day of The Open Championship he was in a share for the lead.
And when he walked off the green he had tumbled right back down the leaderboard with a devastating triple bogey at Royal Liverpool.
In case you have somehow been living under a bridge the last couple of days, the par-3 17th has been the talk of the town.
It has divided opinion. One caddie described it as 'a monstrosity'. Others are fond of it. You will clearly have your own thoughts.
Over at GolfMagic, we're going to tentatively suggest that Herbert likely isn't a fan after his first taste of the hole in competition.
When he pegged his ball up, he was 3-under par. No sooner had he struck his tee shot did he fear the worst. He yelled: "Oh no... big bounce!"
He was faced with a delicate bump and run across the green. Surely, he would have fancied his chances to get it closer than this?!
The commentary team at Sky Sports perfectly encapsulated the moment as his golf ball raced towards the greenside trap:
"Oh he's having a... oh no! Oh no!"
"Lucas what have you done? Oh my goodness look at that for a stance coming our way."
From there, Herbert, 27, failed to get over the ridge and had to watch his his golf ball roll back towards his feet.
The next shot was better and he holed out for a triple-bogey six!
