Jordan Spieth channelled his inner child on Sunday evening ahead of the forthcoming 151st Open Championship

It has to be said perhaps Spieth didn't have the ideal preparation heading into the final major of the year, given that he missed the cut at the Scottish Open

But he appeared to be in good spirits during a short practice session at Hoylake alongside his caddie Michael Greller.

Spieth decided to do something that we all have done by taking aim at the range picker with some delicate flop shots.

Take a look here:

Perhaps it's something in the air. The Open Championship just hits different.

Spieth is said to have told media before he departed the range he's anticipating playing a lot of these types of shots if he misses the green on short par-3s.

It's an Open Championship and Jordan Spieth is playing, so we're all anticipating another wild ride.

Spieth is a three-time major champion. He captured the 2017 Open Championship Royal Birkdale.

Earlier in the week, it was confirmed by the R&A the Open would be returning to the iconic golf course where he triumphed over Matt Kuchar.

Aside from expressing his displeasure at 'being left in the dark' by PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan over the PIF deal, Spieth revealed his joy at the prospect of returning to Birkdale.

Spieth told the media at the Scottish Open:

"I played with Rory [McIlroy] the first two rounds in 2014 and saw that wildly impressive display of golf. I played with Tiger for the first time in a major on Saturday.
"So I've had some really cool experiences around there and there's been some changes to the last couple holes and I look forward to -- I remember some of the golf course and not all that I remember.
"I look forward to getting back out there. It's one of the better, fair and very cool Opens venues to play with internal out-of-bounds and things that you want to see over here. It might be easy; it might be hard; it might be carnage, we'll see."
