Patrick Reed's response to Scottie Scheffler arrest sums up golfer
Former Masters champion Patrick Reed had an all-time response to news of Scottie Scheffler's arrest before day two of the 2024 PGA Championship.
What if we told you before the beginning of the PGA Championship Scottie Scheffler would hole-out with his first iron shot since becoming a father and less than 24 hours later would be arrested, handcuffed and charged with assaulting a police officer?
You wouldn't have believed us.
But that is the incredible situation we find ourselves in and over the next few days more details are sure to emerge about the shock arrest of the world's number one golfer.
Understandably, Scheffler's arrest was the talk of the players' locker room at Valhalla Golf Club before play resumed on Friday.
And according to ESPN reporter Marty Smith, golf bad boy Patrick Reed had an all-time response on the range when he learned of Scheffler's excursion with the cops.
"Marty, it wasn't me this time," he allegedly said.
Superb.

To say that Reed has an interesting reputation in the golf world would be an understatement.
He has been a troublemaker for years mainly because he has continually faced accusations of impropriety on and off the course.
Reed was accused of cheating and stealing from his teammates during his college days - something that he vehemently denies - and also rubbed fans the wrong way when he finally got to the PGA Tour.
The American was involved in two huge rules controversies before he hot-footed it to LIV Golf in 2022.
Memorably, Reed was docked two shots during the 2019 Hero World Challenge after rules officials deemed the golfer improved his lie by moving sand with his club.
Reed denied this was the case and his wife Justine Reed, a Twitter account claimed the footage was digitally altered.
The former Ryder Cup star also benefitted from a controversial drop at Torrey Pines before going on to win the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open.
Reed is well-aware of his reputation and earlier in the week cracked up when a spectator at Valhalla Golf Club asked him to sign a copy of a golf rulebook.
Reed is not the only golfer to have offered their thoughts on Scheffler's arrest.
His LIV Golf peer Ian Poulter took to X to claim his case will be dropped.
"So bizarre hearing the Scottie Scheffler Chaos this morning," Poulter wrote.
"This is crazy. We as players at multiple tournaments every year are told during traffic around the venue to put Hazard lights on and proceed to the venue.
"This is as simple as a misunderstanding. And clearly all will be dropped. The End. Hope he goes and plays well now today."
Scheffler has been charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer.
The reigning Masters champion released a statement saying the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.
And his attorney Steve Romines said 'multiple' witnesses confirmed he did not do anything wrong but was proceeding 'as directed' in the traffic incident.
Scheffler is due in court next Tuesday.
