First look: Scottie Scheffler's mugshot after golfer charged (!) with assault
World number one Scottie Scheffler was detained by traffic cops ahead of day two of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.
Scottie Scheffler's mugshot has surfaced hours after the golfer was charged with assault over a traffic incident near Valhalla Golf Club ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship.
The world number one was placed in handcuffs early on Friday morning as he made his way to the course for his second round.
A fatal collision between a shuttle bus and a pedestrian occurred at approximately 5am ET, leading to a lengthy delay to the start of the second round.
The incident was unrelated to Scheffler.
It has been reported by ESPN that Scheffler 'misunderstood' the traffic flow situation and attempted to access the course via a 'side median'.
An ESPN reporter saw the whole thing and captured the simply wild scenes on video.
The journalist, Jeff Darlington, said the officer 'attached himself' to Scheffler's vehicle and yelled obscenities at the golfer.
Scheffler's vehicle stopped and he was hauled out by the officer, ESPN reported.
The golfer released but it was unclear if he was going to make his second round tee time with Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman.
Sports Illustrated were first to report that Scheffler was booked.
Take a look at his mugshot here:
Scheffler was charged with:
- Second-degree assault of a police officer
- Third-degree criminal mischief
- Reckless driving
- Disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic
Sky Sports reported after Scheffler was released he was driven back to the course in a bid to make his second round tee time.
