Scottie Scheffler goes after golf legends following latest PGA Tour achievement
PGA Tour superstar Scottie Scheffler has now slipped past Dustin Johnson into third place for all-time weeks as World No.1, and he's now going after Greg Norman and Tiger Woods.
Scottie Scheffler might still be winless on the PGA Tour this season but he has at least taken consolation from slipping past Dustin Johnson into third place for all-time weeks as World No.1.
Scheffler, 28, chalked up his fifth top-10 finish of the 2025 PGA Tour season on Sunday with a T8 at the RBC Heritage where he was defending his title on Hilton Head Island.
Despite another missed opportunity for silverware on the PGA Tour, the runaway World No.1 has at least moved onto the podium for all-time weeks as the best player on the planet.
Scheffler is now enjoying his 136th week as No.1 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Much of that is down to him having built a huge lead at the top of world order last season.
Scheffler won seven official titles on the PGA Tour and nine in total in 2024, highlighted by a second Masters victory in three years and a first Olympic gold medal in Paris.
Things have not looked quite so easy for Scheffler so far in 2025 but he has still been playing nicely with five top-10 finishes in eight starts.
Scheffler's season got off to a slow start after he was forced to miss the first month through injury.
He unfortunately injured his right hand badly on Christmas Day while making ravioli, and he suffered a puncture wound that required surgery.
Scottie Scheffler moves into third for all-time weeks as World No.1
The two-time major champion will remain World No.1 for at least a few more weeks yet given he holds a commanding 2.5 point lead over Masters champion Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler is on 14.14 points, while McIlroy has vaulted to 11.61 after racking up three early-season PGA Tour victories including The Masters two weeks ago where he became just the sixth player in the modern era to complete the career grand slam.
Many golf analysts believe McIlroy could move ahead of Scheffler in the OWGR by the end of the summer, at least on current form.
McIlroy has been World No.1 during his career for a cumulative 122 weeks, which ranks him fifth in the all-time list.
Scottie Scheffler is now just 2.5 pts clear of Rory McIlroy at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).

Who finishes No.1 by the end of 2025? 🤔
But despite McIlroy's fast start to the 2025 season, Scheffler has this week moved ahead of LIV Golf star and two-time major champion Dustin Johnson in the all-time World No.1 list and up into third position.
Johnson was World No.1 for 135 weeks.
Scheffler is now setting his sights on two-time Open champion and former LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman in second place.
He will need to keep his foot on the gas though given Norman was 331 weeks all out as World No.1.
That's another 195 weeks away yet, testament to just how dominant Norman was during the 80s and 90s.
The OWGR was first set up in 1986 when Bernhard Langer first held top spot.
Tiger Woods, of course, holds the all-time record for most weeks as World No.1.

Woods, who has won 15 career majors and a joint-record 82 titles on the PGA Tour, owns the outright record for most all-time weeks as World No.1 at 683 weeks.
That's a record that will likely never be beaten.
GolfMagic has listed the top five players for all-time weeks as World No.1 in the below table.
