Dustin Johnson's chequered past brought up by Mickelson in all-time Ryder Cup story
Phil Mickelson managed to get Dustin Johnson to crack a rare smile as he told one his favourite Ryder Cup stories.
Dustin Johnson cracked a smile as Phil Mickelson shared details of 'one of the funniest things I've ever seen' before they travelled to a Ryder Cup.
Mickelson revealed all in the first edition of his new 'Phireside With Phil' series that was uploaded onto his YouTube channel on 2 February.
Lefty sat down with Johnson and his brother/caddie Austin to tell untold stories of their life on tour together.
Mickelson said: "My favourite moment in my career - one of the funniest things I've ever seen if I could share - involves you.
"We were going to the Ryder Cup and we were getting ready to fly overseas and we're gathered around, we're all on this big charter plane and we've got our luggage lined up."
Interjected Johnson: "We were all standing in line and you were standing next to AJ."
Continued Mickelson: "And you know, you got the customs guy and he's got the dogs and they're checking all the luggage.
"And they start with you and they do the thing and he goes to mine and you turn to me and go, 'Well that dog's 0-1.'"
It's not clear which Ryder Cup Mickelson was talking about.
Mickelson and Johnson played on four Ryder Cup teams together for Team USA (2010, 2012, 2016 and 2018).
The joke by Johnson, though, was a clear tongue-in-cheek nod to his past.
Johnson missed the 2014 Ryder Cup after taking time out from the game to confront 'personal challenges'.
In January 2015, Johnson denied having a problem with cocaine after he took a 'voluntary leave of absence' from the PGA Tour.
At the time, it was reported by GOLF that Johnson was actually serving a six-month ban after testing positive for the substance.
"I did not have a problem," he previously said. "I have issues. But that's not the issue."

Johnson said he occasionally drank too much vodka to handle stress.
Later in the video, Johnson also touched upon his Ryder Cup record with Mickelson.
The pair were partnered for the 2010 Ryder Cup and lost both of their matches.
Before the 2016 Ryder Cup in Minnesota, Johnson made headlines when he asked captain Davis Love III not to be paired with Mickelson.
"Even though we are both really good golfers, our games don't compliment each other," he said.
