Wyndham Clark caddie: Who carries the sticks for the PGA Tour star?

Wyndham Clark’s caddie is former professional golfer John Ellis.

They have worked together ever since Clark was playing college golf at the University of Oregon.

Together the pair have won three times to date on the PGA Tour including the U.S. Open in 2023.

Ellis attended the University of Oregon where he played before turning pro in 2003.

He won the Canadian Tour’s Order of Merit after claiming three wins in 2008.

That saw him crack the world's top 250. 

Ellis carried on playing professional golf for several more seasons, with his best finish coming at the 2010 Frys.com Open (T24) and two missed cuts at the US Open.

In 2016 he left his professional career behind to take up the position of assistant to men’s head coach Casey Martin at the University of Oregon.

At that time Clark was in his senior year at the University and the two teamed up with Martin selecting Ellis as Clark’s caddie.

Martin explained the pair’s relationship to Golfweek saying: “John did an unbelievable job for a guy that’s never coached before. He and Wyndham hit it off. 

“He has an amazing ability to kind of tease Wyndham and to get his point across without being overly serious. He absolutely nailed it.”

Clark would win the Pac-12 conference championship and GolfWeek Player of the Year.

When Clark turned pro in 2017, Ellis continued to caddie for him, and when he earned his PGA Tour card in 2018 he got off to a great start with several top-10 finishes.

After Clark achieved his first PGA Tour win at the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2023, Ellis described Clark by saying: “He has the work ethic to be the best player in the world. To win against this field, on this course, the next step will be feeling comfortable in Majors, but the sky is the limit.”

Since then Clark has been a mainstay of the world’s top 10, having won the U.S. Open in 2023.
