PGA Tour veteran Charley Hoffman has become the latest golfer to pen an explosive letter to the entire membership, according to a report.

Hoffman wrote a lengthy email to members on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Once again, the thorny topic of slow play was brought into sharp focus after Tom Kim, Justin Rose and Andrew Novak were put on the clock.

Kim was even called out by the NBC commentary team directly after he took more than one minute over his second stroke on the par-5 6th.

"We've taken a lot of heat over the past few weeks about slow play," Hoffman wrote in his email, according to GOLF's Sean Zak

"And yeah, it's an issue — for our fans, for us as players — cutting down field sizes will help, but only by a few minutes a day.

"As players, we still need to make a concerted effort to speed up. Pace of play has been a challenge my entire 20 years on Tour, and it was an issue 20 years before that.

"Golf is a tough game, and when conditions get extreme, it takes time to play it the right way.

"We all need to take responsibility to be ready when it’s our turn to play and having the awareness to realize that we are out of position and speed up even before the rules official shows up.

"We do it all the time, we just need to be more aware of it!

Hoffman also has an issue with the signature events as he does not believe they create enough playing opportunities.

The bumper prize purse tournaments were first introduced in late 2022 at the height of the Tour's schism with LIV Golf.

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods corralled the top talent for a players' only meeting in Delaware.

As a result of that summit McIlroy and the Tour's top talent pushed for a new structure.

PGA Tour boss Jay Monahan ultimately gave the green light to proceed with the plan to counter LIV

"This Tour was built on open competition, where anyone with the game to compete has a chance to prove it against the best," Hoffman wrote.

"That's what has made our Tour special for generations, and we need to keep pushing for that."

Hoffman also criticised some players for not supporting the Tour enough.

"Here's something else to think about,” Hoffman wrote.

"If we truly care about strengthening our Tour, we should be supporting as many PGA Tour events as we can.

"Many of you keep saying you want to play fewer events, yet you still find time for TGL, Race to Dubai, and other non-PGA Tour events, and that's going to continue regardless of field size."

Hoffman's letter comes two weeks after two-time major champion Justin Thomas offered his unfiltered thoughts on the future of the circuit.

Thomas urged golfers to think of ways to improve telecasts.

He has since revealed he wrote the letter with Max Homa.
