PGA Tour golfer Patton Kizzire has issued an apology after he lost his temper during the first round of the Valspar Championship

Kizzire, 39, went into last week's PGA Tour event at Innisbrook Resort having missed six cuts in a row and had only played 72 holes once all season.

He was having a tough day and, after failing to two-putt from 40 feet for his par at the 15th, decided to kick his putter into orbit

The moment quickly went viral, with golf fans speculating that he was auditioning for the NFL.

"I just wanted to address the situation at the Valspar Championship last week," Kizzire said in a video that was posted on his Instagram on Monday evening.

He also captioned the social media post: "I appreciate the support and understanding. I'll be better for it."

Kizzire added: "I wasn't feeling well and I certainly lost my cool.

"It wasn't my putter's fault, I just lost my cool and it's unacceptable.

"I'm looking forward to being a better version of myself and I appreciate you guys understanding."

Kizzire didn't complete the PGA Tour event. He withdrew at the turn, claiming that he injured his back.

It wasn't the only outburst of anger we saw.

In a rare display of frustration, Sahith Theegala was spotted tossing his club into the ground after a loose iron shot.

Canada's Adam Hadwin also decided to smash a sprinkler head with his club.

The hilarious thing about that, though, was that the golfer accidentally set the sprinkler off and got covered in water.

His wife Jessica had the perfect response.

Viktor Hovland ended up winning the Valspar, ending his winless drought that dated back to the 2023 Tour Championship at East Lake.

Hovland reeled in Justin Thomas over the final five holes, picking up three birdies.

Thomas was classy in defeat, though he didn't hide his disappointment that he too couldn't end his drought

The American has not won since lifting the 2022 US PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
