Australian PGA Tour hopeful Jeffrey Guan has vowed to return to the elite level despite confirming he is unlikely to regain sight in his left eye.

Guan was struck in the face in a freak accident during a pro-am in New South Wales last month.

He was immediately airlifted to hospital and spent two weeks in intensive care.

Guan, 20, broke his silence on 30 October with an emotional statement on his Instagram page, which you can read below.

He has confirmed that doctors said he is unlikely to regain vision in his left eye.

The news is particularly devastating considering only a week prior to the incident he made his debut at the Procore Championship on the PGA Tour.

He had also signed a deal with the sports agency Sportfive, who also represent former World No.1 Jon Rahm.

"The instant ringing and pain rushed to my head, and I dropped to the ground," Guan wrote of what he remembered from the incident.

"Voices sounded pretty muffled, and the next thing I knew, I was in an ambulance being transported to hospital with skin patches containing high doses of Fentanyl."

Guan said he was over the following days he barely slept or ate and was in 'excruciating pain'.

He added: "During my nights in hospital, I almost drowned in thoughts about the injury and my future in the sport.

"Not only was I utterly devastated by the news I had received, but the whole situation made me very depressed and somewhat angry."

Guan said he felt as though his and the sacrifices of others to advance his career would be for nothing.

He continued: "Why did this happen? How in the world am I supposed to recover, return, and be the same player I was, or even better?

"I had no idea. I was devastated and felt so lost."

Despite the setback, he has confirmed that he will continue to chase his dream.

"I will be back," he said.
