Tony Finau has pulled out of Tiger Woods' Hero World Challenge at the last minute and golf fans are all now jumping to the same conclusion on social media.

Finau, 35, was down on the 20-man list to take part in Woods' annual Hero World Challenge at Albany in The Bahamas this week.

But the big-hitting American has decided to withdraw from the end of season event.

Finau will be replaced in the field by Austria's Sepp Straka, who finished runner-up to Scottie Scheffler in this event last season.

Scheffler won by three shots over Straka in 2023.

No official reason has yet been given by Finau for his WD from the 2024 Hero World Challenge.

Finau had played in every edition of the Hero World Challenge since 2018.

While the Hero World Challenge is hosted by Woods and the PGA Tour, it does not count as an official event on the circuit given it's a limited 20-man field.

There are Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points up for grabs, however, something that irks those on the LIV Golf League given they still remain shut out of receiving world ranking points in their own limited field events.

Finau's WD is most certainly an interesting one from the outside looking in given he has been heavily linked to a move away from the PGA Tour to join the Saudi-bankrolled LIV Golf League in recent months.

Finau was first linked with a move to LIV Golf at the end of 2023 but he turned down the initial offer

He is also very good pals with a number of players now on LIV Golf including the likes of Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson

Should Finau indeed move to LIV Golf he would become a desirable option for many LIV Golf captains who are currently on the hunt to replace players on their team ahead of the 2025 season.

It should also be noted that Finau did not decide to sign up to Woods and Rory McIlroy's brand new TGL - backed by the PGA Tour - that starts up in early 2025.

Golf fans speculate Tony Finau is off to LIV Golf after WD from Tiger Woods' PGA Tour event

A large number of golf fans have all seemingly jumped to the same conclusions on social media, especially after the popular NUCLR Golf account posted news of Finau's WD from Woods' tournament.

Finau is a six-time winner on the PGA Tour but he has not won on the circuit since the Mexico Open in April 2023.

Many fans consider a move to LIV Golf would be a great one for both Finau and the breakaway league.

LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman has been on the hunt for new signings this off-season.

News emerged earlier today that a rising DP World Tour star had turned down a big two-year contract to join LIV Golf.

Just watched a video on YouTube that confirmed "per sources" that his deal is basically done But who knows, we shall see.

Definitely a very interesting move, wouldn’t blame Tony for cashing the check!

Would love Tony in the mix for LIV. Perfect personality.

Finau would be perfect for LIV Golf.

Really hope he does move to LIV.

Very interesting to see which team he ends up at...

Thought Finau was gonna go last season.

Finau is made for LIV Golf.

Greg Norman making moves again.

Finau is good pals with a lot of the LIV guys such as Rahm, Brooks and DJ so this definitely would make sense.

Not a huge loss for the PGA Tour, not contended for much for a while now
