LIV Golf commentator implores Jon Rahm to make 'cunning move' with new signing
LIV Golf commentator Jerry Foltz has floated his idea of what Jon Rahm should do ahead of the third full campaign on the breakaway tour.
LIV Golf commentator Jerry Foltz has implored Jon Rahm to sign the highly-rated youngster Santiago De La Fuente.
Rahm has one vacant spot on his Legion XIII side after Kieran Vincent was relegated.
The 2023 Masters champion was reportedly interested in signing fellow Callaway staffer Angel Hidalgo.
And PGA Tour star Tony Finau was also linked with a move to Rahm's side given his links to Arizona.
But the big American has stressed his future is on the PGA Tour and he recently committed to playing in next month's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
"Their camp has been very quiet," Foltz told the most recent episode of the Fairway to Heaven podcast.
Co-host Su-Ann Heng suggested it was strange that Rahm hasn't tried to convince Sergio Garcia to trade David Puig, given the duo are close and regularly practice together.
Foltz continued: "Rahm doesn't have anything to give them [the Fireballs].
"They are going to keep a Latin influence on those two teams, so, they can't give them [Caleb] Surratt in a trade because he doesn't want to.
"Surratt is going to be, well, he is world class already and he has a really good chance to be a world beater.
"Nobody is going to get rid of Tyrrell, they are going to do everything they can to keep him as he is a mainstay on the top of the leaderboard."
He added: "I don't see Sergio saying, 'This is going to be cheap' or 'We'll give you a good deal. H--- no, Puig is a stud."
Foltz reckons De La Fuente has a bright future ahead of him.
The 23-year-old won the Latin America Amateur Championship to book his spots into next year's Masters, U.S. Open and The Open.
Foltz urged Rahm to strongly consider trying to convince the Mexican to begin his professional career with LIV.
"I think the move, the cunning move would be if Sergio is looking at him, then Rahm should go in and sweep the guy off his feet and then trade him for Puig and then everybody gets what they want."
Elsewhere, Martin Kaymer has confirmed his latest recruit for his Cleeks outfit.
bunkered were the first to report the 24-year-old Danish golfer, Frederik Kjettrup, has signed a multi-year contract with the breakaway tour.
Kjettrup already has three PGA Tour Americas victories since he turned professional last year.
He was in the field for the final stage of qualifying school at TPC Sawgrass but withdrew without giving a reason.
Now we know why.
Kaymer made it clear that despite a direct pathway into the major championships existing for LIV golfers, Kjettrup still wanted to join.
