Donald Trump believes Tiger Woods can still threaten Jack Nicklaus major record

U.S. President Donald Trump thinks Tiger Woods has still got at least a couple of major wins left in the tank and could still catch Jack Nicklaus' record.

Donald Trump admits he saw enough good golf from Tiger Woods during their friendly knock last week to suggest the former World No.1 can still add to his haul of 15 career major titles.

Trump, 78, played a round with Woods, 49, before the Genesis Invitational earlier this month as the pair reportedly spoke at large about the PGA Tour's expected deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Woods met for a round of golf with Trump, a low single-fire handicapper, on Sunday 9 February.

Trump is now somewhat leading the line for the PGA Tour in order to speed up talks with Saudi Arabia.

Rory McIlroy disclosed last week that Trump is very much a fan of the PGA Tour, but not particularly impressed with the current format over at LIV Golf.

It is believed a deal between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf's bankrollers will soon officially be struck and with it bring unification in the professional game once more.

But back to the top of the story and the newly-elected United States President revealed on Thursday how he was taken aback by Woods' current golf game two weeks ago, despite the 82-time PGA Tour winner still recovering from multiple injuries including a sixth back surgery in 2024.

Trump considers Woods has still got a couple more major wins in the locker and that he could even track down Jack Nicklaus record haul of 18 major titles if he can stay healthy enough to compete at the top level.

Woods memorably won his 15th and last major to date at the 2019 Masters.

But just being able to play a full 72 holes has proven a tough task for Woods of late.

He missed the cut in three of the four majors last season.

And of the one major cut he did make he went on to finish dead last at Augusta National in April 2024.

Woods currently lies a lowly 1,201st in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) as of February 2025.

His last competitive appearance came at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon in July 2024.

Woods was hoping to return to PGA Tour action at the Genesis Invitational but he withdrew from the tournament following the death of his mother Kultida Woods.

Trump met up with Woods once again on Thursday.

Woods made an appearance alongside Trump at the White House to mark Black History Month.

"Today, we pay tribute to the generations of black legends, champions, warriors and patriots who helped drive our country forward to greatness," Trump began his speech.

"And you really are great, great people."

Trump then spoke directly about Woods, who was standing to his left wearing his Presidential Medal of Freedom that he received from Trump in 2019.

"Tiger has 15 majors, he has a long way to go too, I was with him a week ago when we played, I think he’s got some left, he’s got a couple of majors left, maybe more than that," said Trump.

"But Tiger Woods, he's an incredible guy, an incredible athlete, incredible player. Thanks for being with us, Tiger. He got the Presidential Medal of Freedom which he proudly wore today.

"We have Senator Tim Scott here, what do you think, you didn't get the Presidential Medal, maybe some day you better believe it."
