Major champion opens up on LIV Golf talks: "I'm so happy I stayed on the PGA Tour"
Former World No.1 Jason Day has opened up on why he is 'really glad' he stayed on the PGA Tour after his agent had talks with LIV Golf.

Former World No.1 Jason Day says he's very glad he stayed on the PGA Tour after his agent spoke to LIV Golf about potentially joining.
Day's achievements on the North American circuit and the fact he is a former major winner meant that he was the perfect candidate for the breakaway tour.
It would have been no surprise at all to see the now 37-year-old as one of Cameron Smith's all-Australian Rippers.
But Day was told by the league he was too injury-prone and therefore was never given a number.
"I never had a conversation with him [Greg Norman], it was more like, my agent, in regards to that," Day told the most recent edition of Beyond the Clubhouse.
"I mean I never really even thought of leaving about leaving to be honest.
"It's just that, I remember my agent coming to me and saying, 'Hey, I'm going to have a chat with LIV.'
"Because obviously he had players over there as well. And he goes, 'I'm just going to go and have a chat to them, you don't have to be involved.'
"And I said, I'd prefer not to be involved but it's always nice to be able to know and see if there's any like, as a business sense, it's nice to be able to go and find out like what the potential could be and weigh those potentials."

He added: "And for me, they gave me a pretty easy out. Like, I was never intending to go across there anyways and that was never my intention.
"But it was, [my] agent has to go out and try and find the best deals or potential sponsors, you know, whatever business you can potentially get and that was his job.
"And obviously they came back and said, 'No, he's injured too much.'
"And to be honest, I understand it, like if I was in the same situation, if I was in their shoes and I'm like, well this guy, he's been injured a lot, you know, there's a lot of money that we're potentially putting out there and if he's not playing that would be a bad investment.

"So I definitely understand that. But looking back on that, if they would've given me a number and it would have been a significant number then you're going, 'Oh man, I'm kind of torn'.
"I'm glad that they were like, no, we're not going to even throw a number at him because of these injuries.
"And like I said before, I was very happy on the PGA Tour. Like, I didn't need the money at all, you know what I mean?
"I'm just very, very happy that I stayed because the more and more I thought about, you know, chasing money and everything like that, I thought about like golf does for me and how that kind of sits in alignment in my life and how much that gives me purpose."

Day said everything he does revolves around trying how to improve as a player and a person.
"I'm not sure if that would have give me that, out on LIV," he said.
He acknowledged the situation is different for young pros just joining the paid ranks.
"At the end of the day, if you just focus on trying to win the tournaments, the big tournaments, the stuff that actually means a lot then all the money follows anyway," he said.
