Bryson DeChambeau names replacement for player on LIV Golf team
Bryson DeChambeau has been forced to make a change to his Crushers GC lineup at LIV Golf Houston this week.
Bryson DeChambeau has named three-time DP World Tour winner John Catlin as injured Charles Howell III's replacement on his Crushers GC lineup at LIV Golf Houston this week.
Catlin, 33, has enjoyed a recent golden period of form on the Asian Tour, winning back-to-back tournaments at the International Series Macau and Saudi Open presented by PIF in March and April.
As a result, it has seen Catlin vault to the top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit for 2024, and to second in the International Series Rankings, which is backed by LIV Golf.
Catlin will now get his first taste of LIV Golf in 2024 at this week's Houston event after being given the nod by Crushers GC captain to replace Howell III, who has gone down injured.
The American now joins DeChambeau and his fellow Crushers, Anirban Lahiri and Paul Casey.
Crushers GC are the defending LIV Golf League champions this season.
Catlin has won three times on the DP World Tour, with victories coming at the 2019 Anadalucia Masters, 2020 Irish Open and 2021 Austrian Golf Open.
As is the case for all LIV Golf teams in 2024, captains are allowed to have reserve players on their subs bench for incidents such as this when a player is either injured or cannot compete due to personal reasons.
Flushing It first confirmed news of Howell III's replacement in Catlin earlier today.
The account tweeted:
"John Catlin has been selected by Bryson DeChambeau to replace the injured Charles Howell III and make his LIV Golf debut for the Crushers in Houston this week.
"John has had an awesome season on the Asian Tour, winning back to back events and becoming the first player ever to shoot 59 on the tour at the International Series Macau back in March.
"He’s also leading the Order of Merit and sits 2nd on the International Series standings. This will be a big week for the American who will tee it up against some of the best players in the world for the largest purse of his career. I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on."
DeChambeau is one of 12 LIV Golf League players heading to next week's US Open at Pinehurst No.2 in North Carolina.
He enters the third major of the season off the back of two impressive finishes at The Masters (T6) and US PGA (2).
