Sergio Garcia details update on Rory McIlroy relationship after latest war of words
LIV Golf's Sergio Garcia admits he still 'gets on with' Rory McIlroy despite their fall out last season.
Sergio Garcia has revealed he still 'gets on with' Rory McIlroy and admires his play as a professional golfer despite their fallout in recent seasons.
Although McIlroy was groomsman at Garcia's wedding in 2017, the European Ryder Cup legends squabbled when the Spaniard moved over to LIV Golf in the summer of 2022.
It came at a time when McIlroy was a strong critic of the breakaway Saudi golf league.
At the 2022 US Open, it came to light that Garcia texted McIlroy to 'shut up' about all things LIV Golf.
"He was basically telling me to shut up about LIV, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah," McIlroy told the Irish Independent.
"I was pretty offended and sent him back a couple of daggers and that was it."
Garcia revealed last year the pair had somewhat buried the hatchet, despite McIlroy earlier this year claiming Garcia 'feels he deserves a lot of things'.
That was seemingly something that rang true this week when Garcia replied to a LIV Golf fan account admitting he feels like he deserves an invite into The Open, despite failing to qualify for his 100th major at Royal Troon this month.
Garcia threw a tantrum in front of R&A officials when handed a slow play warning during his Open qualifier at West Lancs last Tuesday.
After failing to qualify for The Open for a second straight year, Garcia blamed officials and then took aim at the R&A over 'viewership' figures.

When pressed by a fan on his latest Instagram Q&A as to who his favourite golfers were on Tour right now, Garcia included the name of McIlroy.
He wasn't the first name on the list though.
"I love to watch my friends, the guys I get along with," replied Garcia.
"Guys like Jon Rahm, my teammates at Fireballs and Rory and guys like that.
"I don't have anyone in particular but my idol was always Seve [Ballesteros] and [Jose Maria] Olazabal. Yeah, that is what it is."
Garcia is back in competitive action on home soil at LIV Golf Andalucia this week, while McIlroy is playing for the first time since his US Open heartache as he looks to defend his Scottish Open title on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
McIlroy was pictured with his wife Erica and some of his 2023 European Ryder Cup teammates ahead of the Scottish Open.
