Phil Mickelson is one of the most successful golfers in the game.
The 54-year-old has won 45 times on the PGA Tour, including six major championships.
Mickelson has starred in 12 Ryder Cups and 12 Presidents Cup events stretching from 1994 to 2018.
Although it has never been officially confirmed, he is rumoured to have received $200m for signing for LIV Golf in 2022.
A lot has changed over Mickelson’s career, but one constant throughout it all has been his wife Amy Mickelson.
Having begun dating in 1992, the pair said ‘I do’ in 1996 and have since had three children together.
Their first child, Amanda, was born just hours after Mickelson finished runner-up in the 1999 US Open.
Who is Phil Mickelson's wife?
Phil Mickelson's wife is Amy Mickelson.
Amy and Phil met at Arizona State University and began dating in 1992.
At that time, Amy was a cheerleader for the Phoenix Suns basketball team while Phil was making a name for himself in golf.
Amy later admitted that she knew nothing about golf and how good Phil was, despite him winning his first PGA Tour event as an amateur in 1991.
She said: “I grew up in a tennis family, and when he told me he was a pro golfer, I thought he worked in the shop at a golf course.”
After marrying in 1996, they had Amanda in 1999, Sophia, who was born in 2001, and their youngest child, Evan, born in 2003.
Together they set up the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation in 2004, with the goal of supporting families in times of trouble.
Mickelson said: “Family is our own number-one priority. Both Amy and I benefited by being raised in our own strong, loving families, and now we’re fortunate and thankful to be in a position to help others strengthen their own family bonds.”
They also launched the Birdies for Brave initiative the same year to raise funds for military charities.
In 2009, Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer, and Phil took time off from the PGA Tour to support her throughout her battle.
After a year-long battle, Amy overcame breast cancer and was present to see Phil win the Masters in 2010.
An emotional Phil said: “I don’t normally shed tears over wins, and when Amy and I hugged off 18, that was a very emotional moment for us and something that I’ll look back on and just cherish.”
When Phil joined LIV Golf and took some time out of the public eye due to the backlash he received for his controversial comments, Amy remained by his side throughout.
He told Sports Illustrated that the time off allowed him to reflect on things, including his gambling addiction, which he admitted had gotten “reckless and embarrassing”.
Mickelson said: “The fact is, I’ve been dealing with it for some time. Amy has been very supporting of it and with me and the process.
“We’re at a place after many years where I feel comfortable with where that is. It isn’t a threat to me or my financial security. It was just a number of poor decisions.”
Phil skipped the Masters that year, and he shared that it allowed him time to focus on his marriage.
“It’s given me a chance to spend time with Amy and create a better balance in my life, so it’s not so focused on just golf.”
In September 2023, Phil opened up about his gambling addiction on social media and expressed his gratitude for Amy’s support throughout his recovery.
