Ludvig Åberg, Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry will join five-time major champion  Rory McIlroy and defending champion Billy Horschel in the field for this year’s BMW PGA Championship from 11-14 September.

The trio, who alongside McIlroy were members of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup side at Marco Simone in 2023, will be part of what promises to be a world class field in the prestigious event, held on the West Course at the iconic Wentworth Club.

Lowry, who won the BMW PGA Championship in 2022, is on an excellent run of form, recording 14 top 20 finishes in his last 17 worldwide starts, while Åberg recently claimed his second PGA Tour title at The Genesis Invitational.

Fleetwood, a three-time Ryder Cup star who secured Europe’s victory in his Sunday singles match against Rickie Fowler two years ago, has brought his consistency from last season into 2025, with five top 20 finishes in seven starts, including a seventh-place result at the RBC Heritage.

It will be Lowry’s 16th appearance at the BMW PGA Championship and he has recorded 12 top 20 finishes in that span.

“I’ve made no secret of the fact that the BMW PGA Championship is an event I always look forward to playing in,” said the Irishman. “Even before my win a few years ago, it was a tournament I always marked on my calendar and it has really gone from strength to strength as a Rolex Series event.

“It’s a course I really enjoy playing and I’m excited to return to Wentworth later this year.”

The BMW PGA very much still remains the DP World Tour's flagship event of the season.

Åberg will be making his second appearance at the West Course after making his debut in 2023 and missing last year’s tournament as he recovered from knee surgery/

The Swede held the 54-hole lead on his tournament debut, eventually settling for a share of tenth as he went on to make his first Ryder Cup appearance a fortnight later.

“Looking back at that week, it was a great learning experience being in that position so early in my professional career,” said Åberg. “I was disappointed to miss last year’s event due to injury, so I’m excited to get back to Wentworth and hopefully give myself another chance at winning the title.”

Olympic Silver Medallist Fleetwood will be making his 14th consecutive appearance in the tournament where he has recorded five top 20 finishes.

“Playing in front of the home crowds is always a thrill and the fans at the BMW PGA Championship play such a large part in making the event the success that it is,” Fleetwood said. “It doesn’t get much better than playing in front of 100,000 people over the course of the week.”

Tickets are on sale now via this link and fans are urged to secure their tickets early to avoid disappointment after a record attendance at last year’s event. Limited Ticket+ and Premium Experience options are also available, with availability also selling fast.

The BMW PGA Championship Festival of Golf takes place just outside central London, attracting more than 100,000 spectators across the week, with the world class action inside the ropes complemented by live entertainment on the Showstage and an unrivalled atmosphere in the Spectator Village.

The star-studded Wednesday Celebrity Pro-Am will bring together global celebrities alongside some of golf’s most famous players in the traditional fun-filled curtain raiser to the main event.

BMW group owners will once again receive preferred parking benefits, with park & ride and shuttle services from local train stations also available free of charge to all spectators.

The Rolex Series event assumes a key position on the 2025 Race to Dubai as part of The Back 9 and will also form part of Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup side’s final preparations ahead of Europe’s showdown in golf’s greatest team contest against the United States at Bethpage Black in New York a fortnight later.

In 2024, general admission sold out across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, whilst all Ticket+ packages sold out on tournament days.
