Brooks Koepka has praised Bryson DeChambeau ahead of The Showdown with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, saying he was 'wrong' about the golfer.

Brooks Koepka has admitted he was wrong about Bryson DeChambeau

The American made the admission in a news conference that was held to try and drum up interest in next week's 'Showdown'.

LIV Golf's Koepka and DeChambeau are teaming up and will face off against PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in Las Vegas.

Koepka and DeChambeau, memorably, came to blows in the early part of DeChambeau's career.

"Look, we all get older, we all mature a little bit, and then you realize, hey, Bryson's a good dude," the five-time major champ said.

"I think he's severely misunderstood and I think the world is actually starting to really see who Bryson is, which is cool.

"I'm the first person to admit it, I was wrong with what my original thoughts were.”

Their feud started in 2019 when Koepka complained about DeChambeau's pace of play.

From there, DeChambeau poked fun at Koepka's abs which prompted this response:

Koepka further fanned the flames by taking aim at DeChambeau's scientific approach to the game.

Oh, and the fact the 2024 U.S. Open champion tried to get relief from ants during a PGA Tour event.

They were brought together for the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits where Team USA romped to victory and reduced McIlroy to tears.

But it appears their moves to the Saudi-backed, breakaway tour have finally allowed the pair to bury the hatchet.

"We had our spats," DeChambeau said.

"But we realised when we both went to LIV, we had quite a few things in common.

"Kind of like stepbrothers in a sense and we’ve developed a pretty solid relationship and have good respect for each other now."

Koepka continued: "Obviously, we've come a long way.

"Going to LIV, honestly, I think that was a big moment, even for just us, right?"

"We were communicating a lot more and our conversation became a lot more open. From there, I’m the first person to admit I can be a bit stubborn.

Koepka also teased the possibility about a potential PGA Tour versus LIV Golf grudge match next year.

"I truly think you’ve got the biggest figure in golf in Bryson and then one of the (golfers with the) most majors," he said.

"We've got a lot going on our side. We want to beat them; we want to showcase the world we’re the top two dogs."

As for DeChambeau, he has confirmed he has asked Koepka to appear on his YouTube channel.

His 'Break 50' series concluded with the golfer and NFL legend Tom Brady coming up short of the feat.

Koepka said he would consider that proposal, providing they win next week's exhibition.

The Showdown will air on TNT on 17 December.
