Rumour: How much McIlroy, Koepka, DeChambeau and Scheffler will pocket at 'The Showdown'
Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler are reportedly set to earn $4,000,000 each at The Showdown.
Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler will reportedly pocket $4,000,000 each when they take part in a PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf match later this year, according to a report.
Crucial details of the 18-hole exhibition were finally confirmed this week.
The contest has been given a flashy name of 'The Showdown' and will be played at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas on 17 December.
The course hosted the first edition of The Match between Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods in 2018.
Golf reporter Dan Rapaport has claimed the golfers are set to receive $4,000,000 each.
Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig has also reported the golfers will receive appearance fees instead of prize money.
The extraordinary sum reported by Rapaport is the same amount an individual wins for triumphing in events on the Saudi-backed breakaway tour.
And it's more money than what each golfer received in first place prize money at the majors this year.
Scheffler picked up $3,600,000 for winning his second Masters in April title while DeChambeau pocketed the same figure at the U.S. Open.
Xander Schauffele won $3.33m when he won the US PGA at Valhalla and $3m when he claimed The Open Championship at Royal Troon.
McIlroy was keen to stress The Showdown was all about giving back to the fans by bringing four of the world's best players back together again whilst the sport remains divided.
But if the report is true then no doubt a few golf fans will raise their eyebrows considering high-profile figure in the men's game have been bickering about money for nearly three years.
"We all want to see more of the best golfers in the world going head-to-head, battling it out on the back nine of a tournament," McIlroy said.
"At a time where the professional game has felt divided, we believe this event can bring fans an incredible day of entertainment."
