Tony Finau has enjoyed a stellar 2018 campaign but is still yet to land a victory. That could all change for the in-form American this weekend after opening up a three-stroke lead at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China.
Finau, 29, has been one of the most consistent performers of the year and came into this week's tournament off the back of five consecutive top-15 finishes including four top-10s.
The American carded a solid 5-under 67 on Friday at Sheshan International GC to move to 11-under and three shots clear of day-one leader Reed (72), and English duo Tommy Fleetwood (68) and defending champion Justin Rose (67).
"I'm really pleased," he said. "I played nicely and was happy with the way I finished. I was pleased to make a few birdies coming down the stretch.
"There's a lot of great players here that are looking to chase me down. I've got to stay in attack mode, continue to make birdies and if I limit the mistakes, I think it will be a good weekend."
Finau has just the one career victory coming at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open.
