Morikawa was born in Los Angeles on 6 February 1997 to Blaine and Debbie Morikawa.
He has one younger brother, called Garrett. He is married to Katherine Zhu. His caddie is Jonathan Jakovac.
Morikawa had an outstanding amateur career. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, and won five times during his collegiate career.
He also represented the U.S. side at the 2017 Walker Cup. Also in the team that year were PGA Tour players Cameron Champ, Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris.
Morikawa made his PGA Tour debut at the RBC Canadian Open in 2019.
It wasn't long before he had earned his first victory, which came at the Barracuda Championship.
As of May 2024, Morikawa has won six times on the PGA Tour on four times on the European circuit.
His biggest victories to date include winning the 2021 U.S. Open at TPC Harding Park, beating Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey by three strokes.
Morikawa also sensationally won the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St. George's. Jordan Spieth finished runner-up.
On the DP World Tour, Morikawa won the 2021 DP World Tour Championship. With that victory, he also won the Race to Dubai.
Morikawa has also represented the U.S. at the 2020 Olympic Games, the 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits and the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club.
He was also part of Team USA at the 2023 Ryder Cup in September.
His overall Ryder Cup record is 4-3-1.
