PGA Tour star Collin Morikawa cracks up after taking a tumble in Japan
PGA Tour golfer Collin Morikawa saw the funny side of taking a tumble during the opening round of the ZOZO Championship in Japan.
Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa both faced with awkward situations during the opening round of the ZOZO Championship in Japan.
Schauffele's golf ball nestled among some tree roots after a wayward tee shot at the par-4 9th.
Rather than take a penalty drop, the two-time major winner twice tried to escape from trouble.
After failing miserably, Schauffele decided to take a penalty drop and ultimately carded a quadruple bogey.
Then he labelled himself an idiot.
For Morikawa, he didn't have the best stance after his tee shot at the par-5 18th at Narashino Country Club found the left edge of the fairway bunker.
Morikawa tried to sling one round the corner and his effort was admirable.
But he took a tumble in the process.
"How to hit a draw," Morikawa sarcastically wrote on X later after the clip was shared.
Watch here:
Morikawa ultimately made a par on the hole and returned a card for 1-under 69.
The two-time major winner is the defending champion here.
Last October, Morikawa carded a blistering final round of 63 to claim his first PGA Tour title in nearly two years.
It represented his first victory since the 2021 DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
What happened on day one?
Taylor Moore carded an opening round of 7-under 63 to take the lead by one shot over Max Greyserman.
Three players were tied for second.
Elsewhere, Justin Thomas made his first start since the 2024 Tour Championship at East Lake.
Thomas did not get selected to play in the Presidents Cup in Canada.
Earlier in the week, he revealed that he's not fully prepared to become a dad.
His wife Jillian is expecting their first child next month.
"I don't think you ever are [ready]," Thomas told reporters.
He added: "All I know is I'll be as ready as I possibly can and we're going to make the most out of every situation we can.
"I can't tell you honestly if I'm ready because I've never done it before. I'll let you know in a couple months.
"It will be a challenge in different ways, but one that we're excited for."
