As far as clangers go, this one is right up there from Nick Watney during the opening round of The Players Championship

We're sure you know by now that No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass is simply not for the faint of heart.

Watney showed us exactly why. The pro found a watery grave with his tee shot. His third shot was safely on the green from the drop zone.

From there? It just didn't get any better. This was awful to watch. And dare we say be so bold as saying even worse for the 41-year-old.

Watney proceeded to then take four putts on the famed green including one of those from an four inches.

You know the ones we are talking about? The type you think you're just going to clean up but somehow inexplicably miss.

To make matters worse for Watney, his tee shot at No. 18 found the fairway and then bounced back into the water. It led to a bogey.

Do you think his head was scrambled?

Watney started on the back nine and you could tell it simply wasn't his day right from the off. He carded a triple bogey to start.

He clawed one back at 15, made par at 16 before making his way over to the dreaded hole that strikes fear into the heart of everyone.

But as I type this, the pro has just made an eagle at No.2 to return to 5-over par for the championship.

The projected cut looks as though it could be level par or possibly even 1-over.
