Collin Morikawa has raced into a two-shot lead after 36 holes at the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua.

Morikawa carded a superb second round of 66 to vault to 16-under par in the first tournament of 2023 on the PGA Tour

That puts him two shots clear of his nearest pursuers JJ Spaun, who posted a 68, and Scottie Scheffler, who carded an equally impressive 66.

Morikawa is looking to pick up his first win on the PGA Tour since winning his second major championship at the Open Championship in 2021.

Scheffler, on the other hand, is seeking to replace Rory McIlroy as World No.1 and he will do exactly that should he finish inside the top three in Hawaii this weekend.

Jondan Spieth surged up the board to 13-under par by matching Scheffler's round of 66.

Tom Kim is a further shot back on 12-under thanks to a round of 69.

Elsewhere, Jon Rahm, who finished second here behind LIV Golf's Cameron Smith in 2022, could only manage a disappointing round of 71 to progress to 11-under par.

England's Matt Fitzpatrick joins him on that number after a round of 69.

Xander Schauffele was forced out of the tournament in the second round, and here's what happened
