GolfMagic goes behind the scenes at Nick Dougherty's Tee Time Tips

Johnny and Alex pulled back the curtain to see how one of Sky Sports Golf's most popular TV shows is made.

Nick Dougherty's Tee Time Tips has been a staple on Sky Sports Golf for as long as I can remember.

From how to hit straighter drives to navigating tricky bunker shots, Dougherty and his well-armed team of co-hosts have solved every golfer's worst nightmares time and time again.

So, when an opportunity arose to witness how the show was made, it was an offer too good to pass up.

With winter now upon us, Dougherty has geared once again with a stellar supporting cast to help you and me navigate the cruel winter conditions the UK often throws at us with a 'Winter Special'.

Upon arrival, we were transported from a concrete car park into a golfing paradise.

With TaylorMade Tour bags propping up a well-stocked bar and a full indoor golf studio powered by Rapsodo taking centre stage, the studio had become a golfer's dream destination.

With Dougherty and his team of all-star guests, including Dame Laura Davies, David Howell and Stuart Cartwright, warming up in the green room, Alex and I took a quick look around,

What initially shocked us was just how many cameras it takes to film an episode of the show. There must have been at least five camera operators navigating the room, each perfectly positioned to capture every angle.

With the warm-up complete and the live crowd having filled the room, we were ready to go.

Having worked in the film industry before and spent countless hours sitting and waiting as an extra, the thing that most surprised me about how the show was filmed was the ruthless efficiency and speed at which Dougherty works.

The show is designed to be filmed as one long continuous shot, which made me think there would be several different cuts and pauses to ensure everyone hits their mark and lines on time.

What we then proceeded to watch was four segments where neither Dougherty nor any of the co-hosts missed a single beat.

Having filmed a few YouTube videos in our time, Alex and I can attest to the fact that it sometimes goes wrong first time around.

However, when the pros step up, it's a different experience entirely. The accuracy and fluency with which Dougherty was able to deliver an hour of filming uninterrupted was honestly incredibly impressive.

Throw into the mix the fact that actual golf shots were hit during all of this made it even more admirable.

Despite no longer playing professionally, Dougherty has still got the game, and he displayed it in all its glory when he launched his first drive of the day 312 yards down the middle of the fairway in front of an expectant live audience.

The supporting cast of Howell, Davies and Cartwright provided plenty of humour, and drawing upon their decades of shared experience, they delivered numerous pearls of wisdom, some of which I went out and used the next day when I teed it up.

I won't ruin what's to come, but there are some excellent tips that any golfer can take away to make winter golf more enjoyable and hopefully more productive.

One particular highlight was when a young golfer was picked from the crowd and demonstrated nerves of steel to go head-to-head against legends of the game and an expectant crowd.

If you want to learn how to hit driver of the deck, you should also pay close attention to a particularly enjoyable segment where Davies displays her legendary prowess with driver in hand.

Featuring a carefully crafted blend of education, humour and some excellent tails of the game, Nick Dougherty's Tee Time Tips is essential viewing for any golf fan.

The Winter Special will hit screens soon, so keep an eye on Sky Sports Golf's broadcasting schedule to ensure you don't miss it.
