Golf fan struck by Koepka's wild Ryder Cup drive loses sight in eye
Lady golf fan now threatens to sue Ryder Cup officials.
Brooks Koepka is not having the best of days. Not only did he come to blows with Dustin Johnson just hours after the Ryder Cup, it has now come to light the spectator he struck with his wayward tee shot on Friday has lost sight in her eye.
Koepka carved a wild tee shot on the sixth hole into the gallery during the Friday morning fourballs, hitting Corine Remande, 49, in the eye. The shot left her bloodied and needing medical attention.
Since then, scans have revealed her eyeball exploded and her socket was fractured, causing her to lose sight in her eye.
Corine says she will now sue Ryder Cup organisers for failing to keep her safe.
"Quite clearly, there is responsibility on the part of the organisers," said Ms Remande as she left the Croix-Rousse hospital in Lyon where she had been transferred to from a Paris hospital.
"Officials did not shout any warning as the player's ball went into the crowd."
Koepka tried to comfort Ms Remande and afterwards said he felt terrible about the incident.
"I tried to stay positive with him so that he didn't lose his concentration," she said. "But once I was taken away, I didn't hear anything from the organisers.
"More than anything I want them to take care of all the medical bills to make sure there is no risk of infection. However they told me I'd lost the sight in my right eye, and this was what was confirmed to me today (Monday)."
Her husband said: "In the best case scenario, she may be able to see shapes after the bruising eases in a month or so."
Koepka took 1.5 points from his four matches as the United States suffered a heavy 17.5-10.5 defeat at the hands of Europe.
The three-time major champion got involved in a brawl with his apparent good friend and world number one Dustin Johnson after the pair were invited to the European Ryder Cup team room.
