'It brings them to my level' Tyrrell Hatton cracks up the media at US Open
Tyrrell Hatton believes the tougher test of Pinehurst at the US Open compared to Valhalla's birdie-fest at the US PGA brings his peers onto his level.
Tyrrell Hatton had the perfect response to whether he prefers 'this kind of grind' at Pinehurst No.2 for the US Open compared to last month's US PGA birdie fest at Valhalla.
Hatton, 32, opened brightly at the US Open with a 2-under 68 on Thursday.
The fiery Englishman is going in seach of his first major title in his 37th appearance.
LIVE: US Open Second Round
In his two major starts in 2024, the LIV Golf star finished a respectable T9 at The Masters in April before enduring a lacklustre T63 at the US PGA in May.
When pressed by a reporter as to whether he preferred a tougher golf course that requires you to 'grind' compared to an easier one, Hatton drew laughter from the media with his response.
Hatton said:
"Yeah, I guess in some ways, with it being harder a lot of guys sort of losing their head, it sort of brings them to my level because I just lose my head every week (smiling). They can kind of experience what it's like in my head for a week.
"But no, I mean, it's a challenge. I've done really well today, but still hopefully three days ahead of us. It's only going to get harder from here I think. Imagine they won't be overly pleased there's a couple of guys at 5-under.
"But yeah, I'll go out there tomorrow, try my best, try to be in the fairways as much as possible, try to hit as many greens as I can. See what happens."
Former Open champion Mark Calcavecchia is one man who most certainly doesn't like Pinehurst No.2.
The 13-time PGA Tour winner slammed the course after watching the action play out on Thursday.
