PGA Tour golfer Max Homa has revealed on the eve of the 2025 Masters he was sacked by his long-time caddie Joe Greiner.

Homa confirmed before last week's Valero Texas Open that his six-year association with Greiner had come to an end.

The American, 34, has endured a tumultuous start to the season that has seen him five cuts in eight starts.

Homa told reporters at Augusta National after Tuesday's practice round it was Greiner that called time on their working relationship.

"I mean, it was not my choice so it sucked," Homa said.

"But we always had a deal that we're friends first and friendship mattered more than the work thing, and he was wise enough to do what he did."

He added: "It's hard. I'm just so used to him caddying. And even just on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays, you just have this easy rhythm.

"But I was happy that he did it, because I would rather -- you know, at the end of my days we continue to be great friends than one of us resent the other for how hard this game can be on a relationship.

"So it sucks because I just pictured always walking fairways with Joe. But again, that's not -- that was not the deal.

Poignantly, Homa said he would rather 'walk life' with Greiner forever 'than this dumb game'.

"It's been hard to process, but also good in a way, because friendship does matter more than any of this stuff," he said.

Homa has been handed a 13.52 BST tee time on Thursday.

He is playing alongside England's Justin Rose and American J.J. Spaun.

Homa has replaced Greiner with Bill Harke

Harke is an extremely experienced caddie with more than 25 years' experience looping on the PGA Tour.

He has worked with the likes of Chris Kirk, Colt Knost and Jonas Blixt.

This is not the first signficant change for Homa in 2025.

At the turn of the year, he decided to part ways with his equipment manufacturer Titleist and switch to Cobra.

He also changed coaches and has a new manager.
