Tyrrell Hatton forced out of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's new golf league
Report: Tyrrell Hatton will not be allowed to compete in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL when he signs for LIV Golf this week.
Tyrrell Hatton will reportedly now be out of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's new TGL following his pending move to the LIV Golf League this week, according to Barstool Sports golf reporter Dan Rapaport.
Hatton, 32, is expected to put pen to paper on a $60m deal with the Saudi-bankrolled LIV Golf League this week, according to Telegraph Sport.
The World No.16 and 2023 European Ryder Cup star will reportedly join Jon Rahm's LIV team 'Legion XIII' by Wednesday.
It is estimated Rahm signed a deal with LIV Golf worth 10 times as much as Hatton.
LIV Golf begins their third campaign this week in Mayakoba, Mexico.
Hatton is understood to have been in discussions about leaving the PGA Tour for weeks but it appears he has finally been persuaded to take the risk.
That risk is whether or not Hatton will remain in the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking so he can qualify for the major championships.
Hatton has won six times on the DP World Tour and once on the PGA Tour, but has yet to taste major success.
Another consideration for him has been whether or not he will retain his eligibility to be selected for next year's Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York.
Hatton and Rahm teamed up magnificently last time when going undefeated in Rome.
According to reports, Hatton has no plans to resign his membership from the DP World Tour, and neither does Rahm.
Hatton to be removed from TGL
One circuit Hatton will reportedly be out of when he joins LIV Golf this week is Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's new TGL.
This update has been confirmed by Dan Rapaport of Barstool Sports.
It is understood all players competing on TGL must be members of the PGA Tour and not competing on the rival LIV Golf League.
Hatton had been on McIlroy's Boston Common team, too, which also comprises Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley.
Tyrrell Hatton’s move to LIV means he’s out of TGL, Tiger and Rory’s simulator league, per sources. Rahm pulled out of TGL before going to LIV. It remains to be seen who McIlroy will decide to replace Hatton with on his TGL team.
Rapaport tweeted on 29 January:
TGL, the brand new tech-infused golf league created by Woods and McIlroy, was supposed to start up this month but it was forced into a 2025 start after the stadium roof collapsed at the back end of 2023.
Rahm was initially in the star-studded TGL lineup but withdrew his name just days before announcing his arrival on LIV Golf.
