Will Zalatoris and playing partner break golf rule in $20m PGA Tour event
Will Zalatoris and his playing partner Cam Davis were each docked two shots during the final round of the first PGA Tour event of 2025 in Hawaii.
Will Zalatoris and Cameron Davis were each docked two penalty strokes during the final round of the first PGA Tour event of 2025.
Zalatoris and Davis were both playing The Sentry in Hawaii.
It was the first of eight signature events of the campaign with a total prize purse of $20m.
The golfers made a comical error by playing each other's ball on one hole.
They only realised the mistake when they got to the green of the par-5 15th at the Plantation Course in Kapalua.
Both players trudged off the green with double bogeys.
Davis was in the top-10 at the time on 23-under but dropped down into a tie for 14th with three holes remaining.
Zalatoris, who has gained more than 20lbs in the offseason, was further down the pack.
Rules expert Mark Dusbabek explained on Golf Channel Zalatoris played Davis' ball, then Davis played Zalatoris.
The penalty for playing the wrong ball is two shots, so the players had to return to their previous shots and replay from there.
