Viktor Hovland has decided to tee it up in the PGA Tour's first event of the 2025 season at The Sentry despite having broken his toe last week.

Hovland, 27, was a serious doubt to compete at Kapalua in Hawaii.

That was after he fractured his right toe on a bed frame in his hotel room.

Hovland told the PGA Tour he fell asleep fully clothed and when he woke up he stubbed his toe whilst undressing.

Doctors told him his broken toe will take four to six weeks to heal fully.

Hovland had only been able to hit balls without wearing golf shoes ahead of the first round.

But despite all that, Hovland fought the pain barrier and teed it up in the first round of The Sentry alongside Rafael Campos and Ben An on Thursday.

Hovland told the PGA Tour that if he was going to break any toe then his right pinkie was the best one for his golf swing.

"It's doing alright actually, a lot better than anticipated," Hovland told the PGA Tour.

"Flew 24 hours from Norway, got back to the hotel room and was so tired, fell asleep on the bed with my clothes on and woke up in the middle night, turned the lights down and stubbed my toe on the bed frame.

"Broken yup. Yeah it's not bad. It's the best toe you can break for the golf swing."

Whether Hovland will be able to continue playing all four rounds remains to be seen.

Hovland confirmed yesterday he has once again split with his golf coach Joe Mayo.
