"The on your own success list is very short" - Tiger Woods' former long-time golf instructor Hank Haney is unsure whether Justin Thomas is making the right decision on the PGA Tour in 2025.

Tiger Woods' former long-time golf coach Hank Haney has questioned whether Justin Thomas' decision to go solo without an instructor is a good decision ahead of the 2025 PGA Tour season.

Thomas, 31, revealed he is going to continue without a full-time golf coach or a putting coach during his first press conference of the season ahead of The Sentry at famed Kapalua in Hawaii this week.

His father Mike is, however, a PGA coach so no doubt his dad will be able to cast eyes on his swing again should he ever want a second opinion in 2025.

Former World No.1 Thomas remains winless around the world ever since clinching the US PGA for a second time in his career on 22 May 2022.

But despite a lack of recent silverware, Thomas finished the 2024 PGA Tour season on a positive note with a handful of impressive finishes, including a T2 at the ZOZO Championship and a solo third at Woods' Hero World Challenge.

So much so Thomas lines up at The Sentry this week as the second favourite (8/1) behind World No.1 Xander Schauffele (6/1).

Thomas has twice won this tournament down the years (2017, 2020).

While confident in his own ability to continue operating without a full-time golf instructor in 2025, Thomas' decision has been called into question by Woods' ex coach Haney.

Haney tweeted:

"The on your own success list is very short, Justin’s dad Mike Thomas had a very good track record helping his son, he’s a good fall back if Justin needs help, at the end of the day when your expectations are to be a top 5 player but your putting stats are some of the worst on tour it’s a tough fit."

Who is Hank Haney?

Haney is a well-known American golf instructor, best known for his work with Tiger Woods between 2004-2010.

Under Haney's tutelage, Woods won six major championships.

The duo later split in acrimonious circumstances.

Woods doesn't have a coach these days.

His most successful coach was Butch Harmon.
