Scottie Scheffler vaulted to the top of the leaderboard in the second round of Tiger Woods' 20-man Hero World Challenge after firing a stunning 8-under 64 at Albany in The Bahamas.

Scheffler, 28, went out in a blistering 7-under 29 to race into the outright lead and he then added another birdie on the 14th.

He would miss a short birdie putt on 18 but it all added up to a flawless round of 64 to move the runaway World No.1 to the top of the leaderboard on 13-under par.

Scheffler is now in the driving seat to defend Woods' Hero World Challenge on Sunday.

The PGA Tour superstar is looking to emulate the feat of Viktor Hovland, who was the last player to defend this title in 2022.

Scheffler now takes a two-shot lead over Akshay Bhatia and Justin Thomas into the weekend. Bhatia carded a 66 and Thomas a 67.

Scheffler was once again seen using a claw / saw grip on short and mid-range putts during the second round.

The claw is most definitely working well for Scheffler so far this week with him ranking fifth in Strokes Gained Putting (1.556).

He's also ranking first for Strokes Gained Total (7.779) as expected for a player who has dominated the PGA Tour in 2024.

Scheffler is going in search of a ninth victory this season.

He won seven official titles on the PGA Tour in 2024 - highlighted by The Masters and FedEx Cup.

Scheffler also won a gold medal at the Olympics in Paris during the summer.

Victory this week will not count as an official PGA Tour title since it's a 20-man limited field event.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley is four shots off the pace on 9-under par after carding a 67.

Overnight leader Cameron Young tumbled back into the pack after a lacklustre 75.
