Rory McIlroy revealed which PGA Tour venue he 'hates' after setting up a glorious chance to earn his 27th victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

McIlroy and the rest of the field battled heavy rain and gnarly winds of up to 30mph on the California coast on Saturday afternoon.

The Northern Irishman followed his erratic third round of 2-under 70 with a 65, hitting birdies at 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 15, 16 and 18.

McIlroy will play in the final group alongside his European Ryder Cup teammates Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka.

Lowry also carded a 65 and McIlroy gatecrashed his interview with CBS, saying: "Partner, what a great round!"

Straka dropped shots at 10, 11 and 12 but made birdie on four out of the final five holes to take a one-shot lead into Sunday.

A drenched McIlroy told reporters the leaderboard ahead of the final round was 'fitting', although it plays into some golfers' hands.

"Just sort of like a Hilton Head does for some people," McIlroy said, referencing the venue for the RBC Heritage.

"I hate Hilton Head and I don't like playing it but other people do. That's the cool thing about going to different golf courses."

England's Justin Rose and World No.1 Scottie Scheffler are not out of the $20m signature event by any means.

Scheffler is just inside the top-10.

Tom Kim, Cameron Davis and Lucas Glover are also in contention.

"I think I hung in there well," Scheffler said after his 3-under 69.

"I took advantage of a few opportunities. I hit a lot of good putts out there that I felt like were going right around the edge. It was challenging.

"There was a lot of adjusting on the fly out there.

"The green speeds changed a lot as the day went on, the wind was crazy, it was raining on and off, so there were a lot of adjustments you had to make.

"I think a good finish definitely helps my chances going into tomorrow."
